Today we are celebrating mother daughter style by showing you four of our favorite, fictional mother daughter duos from film and TV and how to get their look.
Happy Mothers Day!
Freaky Friday
In the hit 00’s comedy we see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play a mother/ daughter duo Tess and Anna, who are constantly conflicting opinions and falling out until one day they wake up to find that they have switched bodies. This forces them to see what it’s like to walk in each other’s shoes (literally) and team up to switch back before Tess’s wedding day. Lindsey Lohan’s character Anna nails the early 00’s Skater/ Rock look that was made popular at the time by teaming band t-shirts with denim jackets, tartan shirts/ skirts, baggy trousers and boots. Jamie Lee Curtis’ character Tess has power dressing down to a tee with smart suits and classy handbags. In the film it’s fun to see the duo swap looks as well as bodies. Who knew Jamie Lee Curtis could look so good with a tartan skirt and guitar!

The Goldbergs
E4’s ‘The Goldbergs’ is an American sitcom that follows the lives of a suburban family in the 80’s and is based on the life of show creator Adam F. Goldberg. Mother Beverly Goldberg is passionate about her children who are often embarrassed by how much she intervenes in their lives. Beverlys look is very glam, flashy and sometimes a bit garish. She loves nothing more than a statement coat/ shirt combo in iconic 80’s prints and shapes. Erica’s style is more stylish and toned down although she still rocks a statement coat like her mother.

Gillmore Girls

The show revolves around single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory who live in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. They have a special relationship that’s described by them as “Friend first, Mom later” due to Lorelai getting pregnant when she was 16. The show really shows off early 00’s style from skinny scarfs to, uggs, weird cut jeans (can we forget boot cut jeans ever existed?), the smallest bags imaginable and Juicy Couture tracksuits. Watching the show today you can clearly see how style has evolved, even though the 00’s don’t feel that long ago! The Gilmore Girls love a good hat to compliment (or clash) with every outfit. If you want to take a piece of Gilmore Girls style into your own wardrobe, take a look at the hats we have listed online or check them out instore.

Mean Girls
Mean Girls remains as a classic teen comedy today and features one of the most iconic film mums, Mrs. George. Amy Poehler absolutely kills it in the role of a self-proclaimed “Cool mom”. She may seem un-cool at times, the school talent show scene is cringey enough without her joining in, but here love and constant support of daughter Regina. Mrs George’s style is casual and trendy and although we don’t have any pink velour tracksuits online, we do have a wide range of pink clothing listed online.
